Come From Away Information

Come From Away
Everything you need to know before auditioning for the June 2026 production

Is there a cast fee for Come From Away?

No. Come From Away is designated as a Community Impact Production, meaning participation is free.

Why is this production free when other adult productions have fees?

Because of its cultural importance to Newfoundland and Labrador, Come From Away is being offered as a high-access, community-centred project. Most adult productions at Nomad Stages operate as training-based programs with fees; CFA is a special exception.

Who can audition?

  • Adults and teens who will be 16 years old or older in 2026. Please note that performances run June 12–14, which falls during the high school final exam period. Students must carefully consider this schedule, as full attendance during tech week and performances is required. High school participants must have written parental permission to take part in the production.

  • All backgrounds and experience levels are welcome

  • We encourage participation from a diverse range of community members

Do I need vocal, acting and dance experience?

Singing ability is helpful but not required for ensemble. Strong actors and storytellers are equally valued.  While this show will have some dance, it is minimal.  Much of the show features choreographed movement, but less dance.

Will the ensemble need to stand for the entire show?

No. Chorus members will rotate between standing, sitting, or stepping forward for featured moments. We will accommodate physical needs and ensure safe staging.

How much rehearsal is required?

One to two 1.5-2-hour rehearsals per week from January to June, plus four to five six-hour rehearsals during tech week in June.

What is the rehearsal schedule?

Music rehearsals: Sundays from 7:00pm - 9:00pm on January 4, 11, 18, 25, February 1, 8, March 1

Full rehearsals: Tuesdays from 6:00pm - 8:00pm from March 3 - June 2

Additional rehearsals: as needed

What is the performance schedule?

June 12 at 7:00pm

June 13 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm

June 14 at 7:00pm
*A minimum of four performances. There is a possibility of adding additional shows, either in June or September.

Is there a limit to how many people can be cast?

Yes. For artistic, staging, and safety reasons, our production of Come From Away will have a maximum cast size of approximately 36–40 performers. This includes:

  • 12 primary cast members

  • Expanded ensemble roles

If the number of auditionees exceeds our maximum capacity, we may need to make casting cuts. We recognize that this show generates strong community interest, and we will approach casting decisions with great care and fairness.

Please note that:

  • All auditionees will be considered for both the 12 leads and ensemble roles

  • We will cast in a way that best serves the storytelling, vocal blend, staging logistics, and production vision

  • The audition process is open to performers of all backgrounds and experience levels

We strongly encourage everyone interested to audition—we aim to create as many opportunities as safely and artistically possible within the limits of our stage and rehearsal environment.

What roles are in the show?

Come From Away is traditionally performed with a cast of 12 actors, each playing multiple roles.
For our production:

  • Twelve performers will be assigned the twelve primary roles, plus select secondary roles.

  • Additional secondary and featured ensemble parts will be distributed among our expanded ensemble.

  • This allows more performers to participate while staying true to the storytelling style of the show.

We aim to create opportunities for a larger cast while preserving the intimate, actor-driven nature of CFA.
