Our Weekly Music therapy group sessions for Seniors living with any level of Dementia or Alzheimer's, offers a safe relaxing environment that provides opportunities for emotional expression, creativity and autonomy. Music therapy research shows improvements in quality of life, cognitive functioning, and behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. Furthermore, significant improvements in verbal fluency occurred after music therapy sessions, and many family members comment of the noticeable reductions in anxiety, depression, agitation and apathy of their loved ones. Sessions allow for both active or passive participation as each group member feels comfortable. Activities include playing percussive instruments, directed music listening, movement and dance, relaxation activities, and singing. All activities are planned and implemented by a qualified and registered Music Therapist with clinical aims set at the beginning of each session.
